The Black Bell Item Locations: Every Key Item and What It Opens

Where to find every key item in The Black Bell — front-door key, fuse, office lever, piano-room key, ladder, bookshelf switch, gate lever and wheel, water valves and Arthur's key — and what each one operates.

Nearly every key item in The Black Bell sits on the critical path, and the radio voice announces most of them before you need them: the breaker should be downstairs, a key waits in the piano room, you'll need a ladder from the basement. The table below lists every key item, where to find it and what it operates, and the sections after it cover the conditions and small catches — several items only appear after a puzzle, and one of them you should not pick up at all.

Both chapters chain these items in a fixed order — each chapter walkthrough lays out its route in sequence.

Chapter One item locations

Chapter One is one long search through the house. The chapter 1 walkthrough follows the whole sequence if you want the step-by-step route.

Front-door key

The front door is locked when you first reach the house, and the key is close by — but the exact spot varies between runs. One playthrough found it right next to the pot by the front door; another found it behind a vase. Search the entrance area, grab the key and the front door opens.

Fuse

Once you're inside, the radio says the breaker should be downstairs. Interact with it and it tasks you with finding a fuse. The fuse is hidden somewhere in the house — in one run it turned up upstairs — so sweep the rooms until you find it, then carry it back to the breaker/generator in the basement. Insert the fuse and pull the breaker, and the power and lights come back on.

Office lever

The "Search the old office" objective points you to the second floor. Inside the old office is a lever; pulling it opens a secret compartment holding a case and a note: "The pearl is no longer safe in this room. I moved it closer to heaven where the house cannot reach it." That note is the game sending you to the top of the house.

Piano-room key

The attic door is locked, and the radio says a key can be found in the piano room. That room doubles as the mannequin room, and the mannequins can be rotated. The on-screen hint — "they watch — do not let them watch" — is the whole puzzle: turn every mannequin so none of them are watching, and a key appears in the piano room. It opens the attic door. The full setup is in the mannequin puzzle guide.

Ladder

An unlocked attic door still isn't enough — the radio adds, "You'll need something to get up there. Look for a ladder." The ladder is in the basement. Carry it back to the attic and climb up. The attic key and ladder page covers this stretch step by step.

Bookshelf switch, the Black Bell and the Black Pearl

In the attic, the radio says there's "a hidden wall somewhere in that room." The switch is a highlighted book on the bookshelf: pull it and the wall opens. Behind it sit both the Black Bell and the Black Pearl — and this is where the item hunt turns. The original instruction back at the road was "don't touch it" about the bell, but in the attic a mimicking voice urges you to "take the black bell." That voice is not the radio. Take the Bell instead of the Pearl and it reveals the trick — "I never told you that" — and triggers Chapter One's escape sequence. The Black Pearl is the item you actually need to progress; the Bell is bait. See the Black Pearl guide for more.

Chapter Two item locations

Chapter Two spreads its items across the basement workshop, the flooded tunnels and the upper house. The chapter 2 walkthrough covers the chapter in order.

Gate lever and wheel

The basement workshop holds a locked rolling gate wired to a console missing two parts — the objective reads FIND THE MISSING PARTS with counters for 0/1 WHEEL and 0/1 LEVER. The parts are hidden separately in the maze-like area around the workshop; in one co-op run each player stumbled onto a different one. Carry both back to the console, install them and activate them to open the gate. Details are in the wheel and lever puzzle guide.

Water valves (four)

Past the gate, the lower tunnels are flooded. The DRAIN THE WATER objective tracks four valves — find and turn all four to empty the water. Two restrictions shape the hunt: you can't step in the water, and the creature down there hunts by sound, so stay quiet and use the lockers to hide if it gets close. The flooded tunnels guide and the monster guide cover this section in depth.

Arthur's key

After the tunnels, the chapter returns you to the upper house, its walls now vandalised with "PEARL = DEATH," under the SEARCH THE HOUSE objective. A framed photo board hides a compartment holding Arthur Gray's portrait and a key. Take both: the portrait reidentifies the radio voice as ARTHUR, and the key unlocks an interior door toward the exterior.

The final item decision

Two item moments close the game. A massive sealed wooden gate starts the SILENCE THE BELLS trial: touch the glowing red seal, then silence the bells whenever they ring — the counter tracks 8 bells, and the eight bells puzzle guide breaks down the timing. Beyond the gate, the ritual hall presents the final CHOOSE prompt: take THE BLACK PEARL from the altar or follow the ESCAPE route. Taking the Pearl leads to the bad ending; ignoring it and walking out is the Good Ending.
